13. SHOW

(a) Show 2006    Everyone agreed that the 2006 show was an excellent day for the club with a very pleasing entry of cats and an enjoyable time for all. A comment was made that the lifts at the Black Lion were very difficult for people who were disabled and it was agreed that will be investigated for the 2007 show.

(b) Show 2007     Everything is well under way for the 2007 show. Mrs Gregory told members which judges were judging various classes.

14. THE BASIC NEEDS OF A CAT USED AT STUD OR FOR BREEDING: Mrs Julie Colin was not able to be present for this discussion as she had a queen due to kitten. Anne Gregory read out the correspondence received and a full discussion took place. Vicky Halls told the members she was one of the advisors to DEFRA on the new Code of Conduct for keeping Cats and would be forwarding information gained from the meeting. Everyone was adamant that studs and breeding cats were pets first and foremost. They need love and affection, company, toys and climbing frames etc to stimulate them and should have an excellent quality of life. Members were 100% behind Mrs Colin and her efforts. The club will take great interest in the plans DEFRA comes up with. Anne Gregory would pass the members’ feelings back to Mrs Colin.

15. ANY OTHER BUSINESS

  1. The Secretary had received some leaflets and information from the Blue Cross requiring volunteers to go into schools to give talks on responsible pet ownership. The volunteers would be given materials, tuition and out of pocket expenses. Several members took the leaflets with a view to following up on these proposals.
  2. At the Kentish Cat Society AGM there had been discussion regarding the possibility of a shared show with the Maidstone and Medway where exhibitors could gain two certificates on the day. The majority of the meeting was against this idea with just 2 of the members supporting the proposal.

After the Annual General Meeting there was a presentation Vicky Halls, the well-known Animal Behaviour Counsellor. This was very informative and enjoyable. Vicky also had some of her books available and members were able to purchase signed copies.

This was followed by a delicious afternoon tea after which the Presentation of the club’s Cups and Trophies took place. The Raffle realised more than £60 for the Welfare Fund.
