The Maidstone & Medway Cat Club’s Christmas Championship Show
Saturday 17th December 2011
With almost 400 exhibits
we had fewer cats than in previous years,
but felt that was a combination of the
appalling weather in 2010 and also the
financial problems everyone is facing at the
moment. However, the judges complimented us
on the high quality of the cats that proved
challenging to judge in a number of classes.
On behalf of Brian, Kit and Shelagh, I would
like to thank everyone who supported our
show and also thank you so much for the
excellent feedback we have received.
Thankfully the weather was kinder this year
and although it was cold, the sun shone
brightly for us. We like to keep our
exhibitors in the hall through the morning
to support the stalls by shopping and also
to be able to watch the judging from a safe
distance! We positioned the award boards in
the Forest Suite and that prevented a crush
of people outside the entrance to the Main
Hall. There was also the Balcony Suite
upstairs where people could have a sit down
and watch the judging from afar …. We are
very grateful to the Bracknell Leisure
Centre for their excellent co-operation and
support and also for the catering which I
have been told was very good indeed.
There was a good
selection of stalls; we thank them all for
their support and hope the day was a
financial success for them. We owe a
particular thank-you to Bob Towner of R & L
Pet Products for his generous sponsorship of
our Best of Variety and Best in Show
exhibits; Royal Canin and Crystal Clear for
their provision of “goodies” for every
exhibitor and Tigga Towers for their Voucher
and Christmas Present as our number one
prize in the Raffle – so many people wanted
to win that (myself included!) so it was a
real boost to the funds.
We are very fortunate to
have a wonderful committee who come along
and work extremely hard all day to ensure a
smooth running show; we thank them all for
their commitment and good humour as they
slaved away. We were particularly grateful
to Susan and Sarah Hope for arranging
vetting-in in for us. It is a nightmare
finding vets to come along and work on the
Saturday before Christmas, but they managed
to find sufficient and everything was able
to start on time! Tania Murray stepped in
and did a wonderful job working with a
visiting TV crew to ensure all was well –
she is a star! Marc Henrie took a wonderful
set of pictures which can be seen on the
GCCF website – they give a good picture of
the day.
We would like to thank
all our judges and stewards for their hard
work. The day seemed to run smoothly and all
was finished in time to close the show at
4.00pm enabling people to start their
journey home in good time.
This was the last year
for Brian and myself as show managers of the
Maidstone & Medway; after twenty four years
we felt it was time to stand down. We will
still be there to support the show and I
will be able to do what I love the most –
judge the cats! We would like to thank
everyone for their good wishes, it has been
a wonderful experience and it was great to
“go out” on a high!
Finally - congratulations
to all the cats – you made our day – have a
purrfect Christmas!
We hope to see you all
again on Saturday 15th December
2012 at the
Bracknell Leisure Centre.
